Sheryl Sandberg marked what would have been her husband’s 49th birthday with a Facebook tribute that shared how much she and the couple’s children continue to miss and mourn him a year and a half after his unexpected death.

“We miss his smile, his generosity, his wisdom, and his love,” the “Lean In” author posted Sunday about her husband Dave Goldberg, the SurveyMonkey chief executive who died following a May 2015 accident while on vacation.

Sandberg noted that her husband’s birthday fell on the eve of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish new year.

“We focus on new beginnings, giving to others, and seeking forgiveness,” wrote Sandberg, who is Facebook's chief operating officer. "We recommit to being better and working harder to move the world toward what it should be: more just, more equal, more compassionate, more kind."

Sandberg noted the spirit surrounding the religious holiday was the perfect way to honor her husband’s memory.
