Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son Christopher was released from the hospital Monday night following a serious accident suffered while boogie boarding.

"Blessed to be able to take Christopher out of the hospital last night. What a feeling of relief to know that he's going to be fine," Shriver tweeted Tuesday.

Shriver also tweeted gratitude for the many prayers Christopher and the family received, saying her family was also very fortunate. "We were very lucky. Many patients and families we met have been there so long and have no end in sight. I pray for their recovery."

Earlier Monday, Schwarzenegger said that his 13-year-old son was improving from the injuries suffered when he was hit by a large wave at a Malibu, Calif., beach.

"Thanks for all your support for Christopher," Schwarzenegger wrote in a Twitter post. "It means a lot to me & to him. He's doing much better & we'll have him back at full speed soon."

TMZ.com has reported Christopher Schwarzenegger suffered multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Shriver, his estranged wife, issued a joint statement last week saying only that their son, the youngest of their four children, had been hurt in a beach accident but was expected to make a full recovery.

Shriver filed for divorce from Schwarzenegger on July 1, weeks after the Austrian-born former bodybuilder and film star publicly admitted to fathering a child out of wedlock with a member of the family's household staff over a decade ago.

Schwarzenegger has amended a divorce filing and withdrawn a request that a judge terminate Shriver's rights to spousal support. His filing replaces a document he submitted last week that also indicated he wanted Shriver to pay her own attorney's fees. The amended response filed Monday in Los Angeles states Schwarzenegger is also willing to pay his estranged wife's attorney.
