It’s a big weekend for tennis — especially for our resident superfan, Savannah Guthrie!

This weekend, the sport’s biggest male stars face off in Chicago’s Laver Cup and Guthrie got to be involved first-hand in one of the biggest matches featuring her idol, Roger Federer.

The TODAY show co-anchor couldn’t contain her excitement as she participated in the coin toss for Friday night’s doubles play between Federer and Novak Djokovic as they faced off against Jack Sock and Kevin Anderson. (Sock and Anderson went on to win the match.)

In a picture she posted on Instagram, an overjoyed Guthrie is seen shaking Djokovic’s hand.

In another shot, Guthrie poses alongside the epic tournament’s giant silver trophy.

Guthrie's excitement is no surprise — she's long been a Federer fan, even admitting to Ellen DeGeneres that she sneakily takes photos of the tennis pro. (Ellen even surprised her with her own shirtless cardboard cutout of the star!)

But Friday also wasn't the first time that Guthrie has been up close and personal with her tennis idol. Back in March, she played a doubles match against the 20-time Grand Slam winner to benefit the player’s charity.

"It was epic, it was amazing, it was embarrassing — all of the adjectives," she said later. While Guthrie (and partner Jack Sock) were ultimately defeated by Federer (and his partner, Bill Gates), the match raised more than $2.5 million in support of children’s education in Africa.
