A close friend of Princess Diana shared a rare photograph of the late royal, looking relaxed and happy, to mark the 21st anniversary of her death.

The photo shows Diana, dressed in casual attire, her eyes closed in a laugh, leaning back on a leather seat in what appears to be an airplane.

“Diana as I remember her. Not enough is written about her sense of fun and zest for life. Friend and wonderful godmother to Domenica. RIP,” Rosa Monckton wrote in the caption to the picture, which she posted Friday on Twitter.

Monckton is a founder of a charity that helps young adults with learning disabilities find work. Team Domenica is named after Monckton's daughter, who has Down’s Syndrome.

Diana died Aug. 31, 1997, in a car crash in Paris. The untimely death of arguably the world’s most famous princess froze her in the minds of admirers at a young and glamorous 36.

Her anniversary always brings hundreds of flowers, notes and other mementos to the gates of Kensington Palace, where she once lived and now the home to her two children, Prince William and Prince Harry, and their families.

William and his wife, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, have three children. Harry got married this past May to the former Meghan Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex.

Diana is buried on her family's estate, Althorp House, located about 70 miles north of London.
