The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have set a christening date and location for their son, Prince George, Kensington Palace announced Friday.

The royal baby will be baptized in private ceremony on Oct. 23, 2013, by the Archbishop of Canterbury at the Chapel Royal in London's St. James's Palace.

The choice of venue holds a special significance for the Duke of Cambridge. It was the place where he paid his respects to his mother, Princess Diana, after she died. His biographer, Penny Juror, suggested in the British newspaper The Telegraph that the choice was a way for Diana to be included in the ceremony.

“There is a recurrent theme of making sure Diana is very much in his thoughts and in his heart," she told The Telegraph. "I think this is a little way of including her.”

Third in line to the British throne, Prince George has rarely been seen in public since he was born July 22. He was photographed with his parents after they left the hospital where he was born. The public also got a chance to see him through family photos his parents released last month. The Palace confirmed the family will pose for photos again after he's baptized.

The baptism is expected to be marked with festivities similar to those that surrounded the christening of the baby's father. Prince William was baptized on Aug. 4, 1982, in honor of the birthday of his great grandmother, the Queen Mother. The day was marked in London by marching bands and cannon salutes. Though the ceremony was private, William's parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, posed with other members of the royal family for photographs after.

The baby's christening date isn't the only royal news Friday: Kensington Palace also unveiled a new royal coat of arms for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
