The Swedish star of the three movies based on the "Millennium Trilogy" crime novels is meeting with Hollywood filmmakers this week, while fans digest the announcement that a little-known actress has landed her role in an upcoming Hollywood remake.

Noomi Rapace arrived in Los Angeles during the weekend and has met or is meeting with filmmakers McG, Joe Roth, Brett Ratner and Ridley Scott, as well as various producers.

How Rooney Mara became 'Dragon Tattoo' girl

Rapace won the Swedish equivalent of a best actress Oscar for playing feisty computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in director Niels Arden Oplev's 2009 version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," the U.S. title of the first film in the series.

Sony said Monday that Rooney Mara would take on that role in director David Fincher's "Tattoo" remake, which will co-star Daniel Craig and come out at the end of 2011. Mara appears in Fincher's upcoming Facebook movie "The Social Network."

Rapace, 30, took herself out of the running for the remake, deciding instead to broaden her portfolio by breaking into the American film scene in a new role.
