The owner of one of the largest catering companies on New York's Long Island has been accused of seriously violating Jewish law by having workers prepare kosher and non-kosher meals in the same kitchen.
The allegations come from the former chef and general manager of Morrell Caterers. They claim that starting in September 2010 they were instructed to prepare non-kosher meals in one of three kitchens operated by the company.
Owner Scott Morrell vehemently denied the allegations at a press conference Wednesday. Morrell claims the attorney for the chef and the general manager is trying to get him to drop an unrelated lawsuit.
Among observant Jews, kosher law defines how foods must be prepared and what foods are unfit for consumption, such as shrimp and pork.
