Imagine spending a day picking out every toy, gadget, or outfit you’ve ever wanted. Then imagine giving it all away.

This holiday season, musician and actor Nick Cannon will go on a televised shopping spree with one person to do just that – make Christmas dreams a reality for underprivileged kids in their hometown.

Growing up, Cannon and his family turned to The Salvation Army for assistance, and he credits the organization for helping out during many times of need. “There is nothing like someone lending a helping hand to your family during the holidays; it’s what life is all about,” he said.

Cannon is teaming up with The Salvation Army to find someone with the best reason for giving back this year, and will join them on a shopping spree where everything that gets purchased will be donated to a Salvation Army children’s program.

To find the winner of this “Giving Spree” contest, Cannon is asking Americans to tweet videos of themselves explaining their reasons for giving and tagging their posts with #RedKettleReason and #GivingSpreeSweeps.

Six finalists will be announced by Cannon on the TODAY show on #GivingTuesday, December 1. Then it’s up to America to choose who will join Cannon in New York for a day of making Christmas dreams come true.

“I see philanthropy and giving back as a blessing in itself, it’s a privilege, and I get more out of it than anything else I do in life,” said Cannon. “I can’t wait to see all the personal stories and connections to The Salvation Army and be able to experience the Giving Spree alongside the winner.”
