First lady Michelle Obama says having three generations of family living in the White House and raising her two daughters there has been a "beautiful experience."

Mrs. Obama also paid tribute to her mother, Marian Robinson, at a Mother's Day event at the White House on Friday.

She said her mother is her "rock," who pushes her to be the best woman, professional, mother and friend she can be. The first lady's voice broke as she spoke about her mother, who is living at the White House with the Obamas.

Robinson spends much of her time caring for her granddaughters Malia and Sasha, taking them to school almost every day. She originally said she was uncomfortable moving into the White house, but eventually "settled in," according to the first lady.

Mrs. Obama's Mother's Day tea included former first lady Rosalynn Carter and President Richard Nixon's daughter Tricia Nixon Cox.
