Miami hottest, Minneapolis most intelligent

Travel + Leisure magazine ranked U.S. cities on their culture, population, shopping, restaurants, nightlife, airports and more. See which urban destinations fared best with visitors and residents.

What's your favorite city? Do you have a go-to urban area when you're looking for a cultural fix? What about when you need to shop for a special occasion, or feel an uncontrollable urge for ethnic food? Everyone has a least favorite city, too. What cities do you find overpriced and overrated, full of unattractive people, or worse, dull?!

TravelandLeisure.com really wanted to know, so we asked. Visitors to our site this summer were asked to rate 30 American cities in categories ranging from restaurants, shopping, and cultural attractions to people, airports, and more. Altogether, visitors answered almost 4 million questions about their favorite — and least favorite — destinations. Now the results have been tallied, and we've got them.

For the record: America’s most attractive people are in Miami, Cleveland is the best place for an affordable getaway, Minneapolis/St. Paul ranks No. 1 for intelligent people, and Houston is home to the best airports. But that just scratches the surface. Where do travelers go for a wild weekend? Where do they head when they're in the mood for a getaway in a stylish, boutique hotel?

The 2009 AFC results are sometimes surprising, often funny, and always trip-provoking:
