It’s so cruel! Here we are dodging the snowflakes while the stores are filled with the newest resort and spring merchandise.

It makes you wanna scream!

But think of it as doing double duty — those pieces will pack a punch for any mid-winter getaway and then give you the fashionista’s edge for spring and summer.

The latest and best looks are all right here in the latest edition of our weekly fashion and beauty update.

You can find fabulous choices of spring-into-summer moccasins at stores such as Bloomingdale’s, Banana Republic, Stuart Weitzman, Cole Haan and Hush Puppies.

Bead it
The necklace you'll reach for again and again over the months to come can be short or long, single- or multiple-stranded — just as long as it's beaded and chunky. This trend goes two ways: either bright and colorful beads that look like bubblegum candy or the organic look of wood, horn, turquoise, coral, mother of pearl or other natural materials. Wear one (or more!) right now to update your basic jacket or sweater set combination; come summer you'll wear them with practically everything you own.

The beads we want right now include a $50 turquoise chunky choker stunner from Lauren by Ralph Lauren, any stone necklace from Baubles-Jewelry.com or the delicious multi-colored beaded and tiered necklaces from Fragments.

Skirting the issue
Feminine looks are hot for resort and spring, perhaps none more so than the knee-length tiered or decorated A-line skirt. Some of the best looks are patched, beaded, appliquéd, printed and embroidered — and they’re perfectly A-OK for daytime or casual wear. Pick your favorite trend: the multi-tiered gypsy skirt, the ladylike floral or ethnic-inspired bohemian looks are all equally stylish choices. Right now, you can pair your fancy new skirt with a turtleneck or twinset, tights and ladylike T-strap pumps or take it downtown with a chunky sweater and boots. This spring and summer, you’ll wear it with everything from a jacket for work to a sexy little tank for evening.

Try a print in a winter color palette that can work with your wardrobe right now. We love the looks from Anthropologie, Cynthia Steffe, Elie Tahari, Free People and Talbots.

Shrink wrap A hit of color adds an instant lift to winter-weary black, gray, camel and navy, and the trendy look of the shrunken jacket is just the way to go about it. This little beauty acts almost like an accessory — slip it over a turtleneck, tee or blouse and let its fabulous, feminine color do its magic. Try one in cotton twill or a stretch cotton sateen (the latter works for resort but will also be comfortable for summer). Which color to choose? We love them in hot pink, pale pink, lilac, orchid, lime green, chartreuse and turquoise — or a fun floral print that combines every color.

Some of the season’s prettiest new jackets can be found from Juicy Couture, Old Navy, Lily Pulitzer, BCBG Max Azria and Dana Buchman.

Kurta call
The chic caftans and kurtas you loved (or longed for) late last summer are on their way back for resort and spring. They’re right in keeping with the global style that will be influencing everything you see over the next few months — from Morocco to Bali and beyond, the mood is definitely ethnic (and embellished). The kurta (the traditional name for a hip-length caftan) is a woman’s best friend. With its simple shape, body-skimming line and V-neck, it’s sophisticated while also being flattering on almost everyone. For resort, wear it with jeans or over a tank or tee. By the way, if it’s embroidered, sequined or adorned in some way, all the better to mix things up. In a few months, this will be the “must have” top of the season. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Right now you will find a nice selection of caftans at both Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue as well as exotic beauties from Chaiken and Calypso (of St. Bart’s fame).
