Who knew Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian were so politically minded?

In the wake up of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak's resignation on Friday, the 24-year-old actress expressed her joy over the country's plans for democracy on Twitter.

"Congratulations to the people of Egypt. Your voices were heard and you proved that peaceful demonstrations are possible and effective," Lohan tweeted. "And I pray Egypt maintains its treaty with Israel and sets the trend for its neighbors to create peace with Israel and the entire region."

Upon his resignation, Mubarak remanded control to the military, succumbing to 18 days of peaceful pro-democracy demonstrations.

Lohan isn't the only star celebrating the international event: Kardashian, 30, hailed it as a "historic day for Egypt! The people of Egypt made the regime step down. Now they can enjoy the freedom they deserve."

Perhaps more appropriately, President Barack Obama made a statement on Mubarak's shocking resignation during a press conference on Friday.

"The people of Egypt have spoken, their voices have been heard, and Egypt will never be the same," he said. "By stepping down, President Mubarak responded to the Egyptian people's hunger for change. But this is not the end of Egypt's transition; it's a beginning."
