Lena Dunham, creator/writer/star of the HBO series "Girls," is having a very good year. She was nominated for four Emmys and she just signed a book deal for more than $3.5 million. But regardless of the 26-year-old media entrepreneur's success, some folks appear fixated on one thing: her thighs.

Some background: Dunham stepped out on Sept. 29 wearing an outfit that was made up of an oversized shirt and very short shorts. The shorts were so short, in fact, that it appeared as if maybe Dunham had forgotten to wear pants entirely, and many outlets highlighted the fashion choice and the fact that her thighs were on display. Dunham addressed the situation during an appearance at The New Yorker Festival on Sunday.

"Last week I wore something to an event ... a big top and little shorts, and a bunch of [blog posts] came out that I had been out without pants," Dunham is quoted as saying in this New York Post piece. "I actually saw it ... 'Love it or hate it: The no pants look.' My mom .... thought it was so funny. My boyfriend was like, 'People seem to be worked up about you going out without pants.' But I didn’t go out without pants! I had shorts on," Dunham said.

"If Olivia Wilde had gone to a party in ... little shorts, she might have been on a 'weird dressed list' or been told her outfit was cute. I don’t think a girl with tiny thighs would have received such no-pants attention. I think what it really was ... 'Why did you all make us look at your thighs?' My response is, get used to it because I am going to live to be 100, and I am going to show my thighs every day till I die."
