Kraft Foods Inc. spent $720,000 in the first quarter to lobby the federal government on trade, transportation, food safety, marketing to kids and other matters, according to a recent disclosure report.

That's less than the $870,000 the company spent a year earlier or the $800,000 it spent in the fourth quarter of 2010.

The nation's largest food maker lobbied Congress, U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Office of Management and Budget, the Food and Drug Administration and other agencies from January through March, according to the report it filed April 20 with the House clerk's office.
