Former TODAY anchor Katie Couric is mourning the loss of her mother, Elinor H. Couric, who passed away Thursday at the age of 91.
The 57-year-old journalist, who co-anchored TODAY for 15 years and now works as a Yahoo News Global Anchor, expressed her sadness Thursday morning across mutliple social-media platforms.
"My heart is broken," she wrote on Twitter. "I lost my mom and best friend. We love you and miss you, Mom/Granny."
On her public Facebook page, Couric said her mother is missed, adding, "She loved fiercely and was fiercely loved."
Couric was set to take part in the Stand Up to Cancer telethon on Friday. She offered thanks on Twitter for condolences she received from fans.
