Help beat breast cancer with a little shopping

Think “pink” and spend your money so it helps fight breast cancer. Lucy Danziger of SELF magazine shows some fashionable ways you can help.

Looking for a way to help fight breast cancer? Well, look no further. To conclude a special hour on breast-cancer awareness, "Today" invited SELF magazine editor-in-chief Lucy Danziger to share some fashionable ideas on what you can do to help. All year long you can shop, be pretty in pink and help fight breast cancer too. Here are her tips on how to spend your money so it counts:

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is almost over, can you still get these items and help benefit breast-cancer causes?
Yes! Breast cancer doesn't follow a calendar — we need year-round awareness. These special products make their debut in October, but are still available for the next several months. They make great holiday gifts, and are great conversation starters. Women need to remember that October isn't the only time to think about breast cancer.

There's been some controversy about "pink" products. Some people claim these companies just want to capitalize on the disease so they market products without really donating money to the cause.
Ever since SELF co-created the Pink Ribbon 12 years ago, there has definitely been an explosion in the marketplace. While some companies certainly do use the cause as an excuse to market their products, many, many companies use the cause as a way to connect with their consumers. And of course, women should capitalize on any and all reasons to start the conversation. Unbelievably, 40 percent of women who need mammograms still aren't getting them, so if a Pink Ribbon product convinces even one woman to get tested, it's worth it. Remember, early detection is still our best weapon.

We selected these products because the manufacturers have pledged the highest percentage of proceeds to one of the many worthy breast-cancer charities. SELF featured these and other products in our Breast Cancer Handbook:
