Is it a duck or a blond bombshell? With its bouffant “hairdo,” this quacker bears a strange resemblance to Marilyn Monroe.
Known as a crested duck, its chic hairstyle is caused by a deformity in the skull. The growth, covered in feathers, is made of fatty tissue which protrudes through a gap in the skull. The size of the growth varies for each duck.
Locally, the duck is known as George Washington, for it's likeness to the former president, said amateur photographer Rainey Shuler, who captured the image at the Willow Springs Pond in Soulsbyville, Calif.
“I had never seen a duck like this,” said Shuler. “When I first saw the hairstyle I thought I was seeing things. I had to chuckle. It looked as though it was wearing a wig that was ready to fall off.”
