A kiss has always been magical for me. I dreamed about my first kiss as a girl (the reality was a little underwhelming). A kiss was the first thing I shared with my husband when we got married. It’s been a healing agent for my children’s boo-boos. A kiss is the bright and happy side of love.

So when I found the personalized Kiss Portraits from DNA 11, I knew I had to get one. Kiss Portraits takes an impression of my kiss and then makes a fine art-quality canvas print that my husband can hang on our wall. (The company started out in business by taking DNA samples of individuals and turning it into artwork, and now also does the same with fingerprints as well as kisses.)

The process starts with placing my order online. I first choose the style of lip print — a single lip print or double lip print (they’re slightly offset and stacked). Then I can select the color of the background and each lip print. There are 25 preset color combinations, or I can create my own from a huge color palette. And there’s a large preview window so I can make sure all the colors will look great together.

Prices for a custom Kiss Portrait are: 20-by-20 ($290) or 40-by 40-inch ($390) — which I think is pretty reasonable for a personalized gift that will hang on our walls forever. I can also choose to add my signature ($50) or have it arrive pre-stretched on a frame ($49).

Once I’ve placed my order, DNA 11 will send out my lip-print collection kit. Inside there’s a tube of M.A.C. Viva Glam lipstick and a bunch of Kiss image sheets to capture my lip print. Since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I’ll wrap up the kit as my gift to him and then we can select the lip print together.

Once I’ve made the perfect print, I’ll send the sheet back to DNA 11 in the included envelope. Then we’ll wait about four weeks until my masterpiece arrives.

If you want to give an immortal kiss too, you’ll have to order by Feb. 9 to get the kit in time for Valentine’s Day.
