Olympic gold medal gymnast Gabby Douglas said growing concerns about the Zika virus won’t stop her from defending her title at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"It's the Olympics," the 20-year-old hopeful told The Associated Press. "Mosquitoes? Like, whatever. I'm going. This is my shot. I don't care about no stupid bugs."
Brazil has been among the nations hit hardest by the mosquito-born Zika virus, prompting some health professionals to call for the Olympics to be moved or canceled.
But Douglas, who won gold medals in the individual all-around and team competitions at the 2012 London Games, has expressed little fear about heading to Rio.

Neither have other gymnasts, including three-time world champion Simone Biles, who noted gymnastics teams spend most of their time indoors.
She also pointed out that the risk Zika poses for some people, especially pregnant women, doesn't apply to her.
"We're so young, none of us are trying to get pregnant," she told The AP.

The U.S. gymnastics team will be officially determined after the upcoming trials in St. Louis later this month.
