Food Marketing Institute spent $280,000 lobbying in the first quarter on issues from grocers' loyalty cards to tax code reform, according to a recent disclosure report.

The group, which represents roughly 1,500 food retailers and wholesalers, also lobbied on banking, agriculture and health care in January through March.

FMI spent the same amount in the first quarter last year and $320,000 in the fourth quarter.

Besides Congress, the trade group lobbied the Department of Justice, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Agriculture and other agencies according to the report it filed April 20 with the House clerk's office.
