Not sure what your kids should wear to all the holiday get-togethers? Luckily for them, holiday style has come a long way since the reindeer sweater. So whether you dress him in a classic tan suit or her in a bohemian flowered skirt, they'll still look cute and stylish. Here are five party-perfect trends from “Cookie” magazine that will not only dazzle in December, but will wear well year-round:

1. Tartan

  • Girls: Pair a plaid skirt with a matching blouse. This preppy pattern is at the height of festive dress, but the skirt can also be school-ready when paired with a light sweater, while the top with white jeans can bring your daughter right into spring style.

  • Boys: Give your boy a brilliantly bookish look in a tartan blazer, whether it is paired with dress pants at a holiday celebration or with dark jeans in the classroom.

2. Classic

  • Girls: A navy or forest-green skirt, in corduroy or velvet, is about as timeless as it gets for the holidays. Give the look some personality by matching with a sweet white blouse and red tights. For weekday wear, pair with a cotton T-shirt, leggings and boots.

  • Boys: A tan suit serves as the perfect canvas for basic boys' holiday style. Dress it up with a jewel-toned shirt and festive tie. Dress it down with jeans and a T-shirt. Sneakers work with either combination.
  • Girls: They'll look relaxed yet family-portrait-ready in a vintage-print skirt and an unexpected metallic top. In warmer weather, the skirt works well with a simple tank or graphic T.

  • Boys: Perfect their vintage look with argyle sweaters or vests and thin corduroy pants. Plus both pieces are versatile enough your little man can wear them all winter long.
  • Girls: There is no reason to shelve her funky favorites for dressy events. Flowy skirts and tunics in simple fabrics look plenty fancy when paired with a faux fur vest and sparkly ballet flats. Clogs and a jean jacket keep these pieces looking cool the rest of the year.

  • Boys: Princes can get that regal look by layering organic tunics with tweedy blazers and slouchy dress pants in an earthy palette. Switch out trousers for jeans to make this look playdate friendly.
  • Girls: She will sparkle in a long satin dress, complete with enough bows and ruffles to satisfy any girly girl or aspiring star. But even an ensemble as fancy as this can be worn year-round when paired with a slouchy sweater or a denim jacket and some cowboy boots.
  • Boys: A classic tuxedo can also run the gamut from hyper-formal to playground chic. Pair with the typical accouterment for a formal winter bash, and with a rocker T-shirts and Converse for the rest of the season.
