More movies but fewer commercials were filmed on location in the Los Angeles area in the past three months, keeping overall production levels flat.

The number of production days for commercial filming on location dipped 7.5 percent for the three months ended June 30 compared to the same quarter last year.

FilmL.A. Inc., which handles filming permits for the city and unincorporated parts of the county, says the drop ended a 21-month surge in commercial-making.

Location filming of TV shows dropped a little under 1 percent in the second quarter, with sharp falloffs for sitcoms and reality programming.

At the same time, feature film production jumped nearly 4 percent compared to the second quarter of 2010.
