This was no laughing matter.

For Tina Fey, the decision to have a second baby was an agonizing one, with the 40-year-old comedian saying she feared she was too old to have any more kids in a healthy way.

The "30 Rock" star, usually mum about things so private, opens up in her new memoir, "Bossypants," about expanding her brood, and it's more touching than you'd think, coming from the woman so used to being a wiseass.

Fey announced Wednesday to Oprah Winfrey, during a sit down to air next Tuesday, that she was pregnant with her second child from husband Jeff Richmond. She is currently five months along.

In her new book, Fey describes the tortuous decision to go ahead with the pregnancy at her age, revealing that she cried and broke down during a routine visit to her gyno.

"I went for my annual checkup and, tired of carrying this anxiety around, burst into tears the moment she said hello. I laid it all out for her, and the main thing I took from our conversation was the kind of simple observation that only an impartial third party can provide: 'Either way, everything will be fine.' " Fey writes.

Fey and Richmond already have a 5-year-old daughter, Alice, whom Fey credits with coming up with some of those brilliant "30 Rock" lines, like "I want to go to there."

The actress and Mean Girls scribe recently wrote a humorous essay for the New Yorker, in which she rips on people who ask others if they plan on having more kids.

"I considered it such an impolite question that for years I didn't even ask myself," she wrote. "Thirty-five turns into 40 faster than McDonald's food turns into cold non-food."

Now, if only we get to see a preggers Liz Lemon on 30 Rock...
