Rhode Island environmental officials are promoting nine farmers markets now being operated at state parks from Narragansett to Johnston.

Janet Coit, director of the state Department of Environmental Management, says the markets are a great place to get fresh local products direct from the farm, including produce, meat and seafood.

Farmers markets are now operating on Sundays at Fishermen's Memorial State Park in Narragansett.

On weekdays, the DEM has markets throughout the state at Memorial Park in Johnston, the Blackstone River Visitor Center in Lincoln, at Haines Memorial State on the East Providence/Barrington line, at Capitol Hill in Providence, at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick, in Cranston at the Pastore Complex, at State Pier Nine in Newport and at Colt State Park in Bristol.
