Does it seem that 2012 has been an especially tough year as far as celebrity deaths? Yes, of course famous and non-famous people die every day, but the sheer number of boldface names that have appeared in the obituary column this year is staggering.
In the world of music alone, we've lost Whitney Houston, Davy Jones, Donna Summer, Dick Clark, Robin Gibb, Etta James and more.
The literary world and the arts have been hit hard, too. Maurice Sendak, Thomas Kinkade, LeRoy Neiman, Gore Vidal and Ray Bradbury were among those who died in 2012.
From the world of TV and movies, Andy Griffith, Phyllis Diller, Sherman Hemsley, Michael Clarke Duncan, Richard Dawson, Mike Wallace, Ernest Borgnine and others have passed away.
And those names are just scratching the surface. There are more than 45 photos in our Curtain Calls slideshow, and those are just the ones we were able to include. It's sad but undeniable that we'll be adding more every month.
Via our slideshow above, take a look at (some of) the entertainers we've already lost in 2012.
