Clark James Gable, the 22-year-old grandson of legendary actor Clark Gable, was arrested earlier this week in Hollywood on felony charges that he directed a laser pointer at a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter.

According to CNN, which spoke with the younger Gable's manager (he's an aspiring actor), he was released on $250,000 bail.

"Boys will be boys, and he was playing with what he thought was a toy and not a felony piece," Roxane Davis, Gable's manager, told CNN. "From what he told me from jail, he had it out the window (of a friend's car), and he was shining it out the window, and the next thing he knew was that he had a spotlight on him."

Davis described Gable as despondent and regretful over the matter.

She also told CNN that Gable's sister Kayley, 24, herself an aspiring celebrity, made arrangements with a publicity-seeking bond service to have her brother sprung with the cameras rolling.

Davis said the accused didn't authorize this stunt, but was -- understandably -- OK with the outcome.

In any event, he has a court date on August 26.

Gable's friend who was driving the car, 23-year-old Maximillian Anderson of nearby Calabasas, faces the same felony charges. He, too, was sprung on bail.

According to CNN, the alleged crime ocurred at about 10 p.m. Thursday, when an LAPD helicopter was patrolling Hollywood. Noticing that a green laser light was illuminating his cockpit, the pilot took evasive action before noting where the laser was coming from (a car on the street) and alerting patrol cars.

Gable recently completed filming the lead role in a thriller called "Looking for Clara" in Italy, Davis noted.
