Actor Chris Klein, who was arrested last week on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, has checked into a rehabilitation clinic for alcohol addiction, People magazine reported on Monday.

The 31-year-old actor, most famed for the comedy "American Pie," is being treated at a rehab center in Utah and has begun a 30-day alcohol addiction program.

"After recent events, Chris was forced to take a clear look at a problem he has been trying to deal with himself for years. He understands now that he can not beat this disease alone," Klein's representative Jaime Primak told People.

Klein was taken into custody last Wednesday after the car he was driving was seen drifting between lanes on a Los Angeles freeway. He was released later on his own recognizance.

The actor, whose real name is Frederick Christopher Klein, gained the eye of Hollywood in high-school movies "Election" and the hit 1999 comedy "American Pie" that spawned several sequels. Since then, he has worked in movies and on television.
