The National Cable and Telecommunications Association spent $4.4 million on lobbying in the second quarter.
That's slightly less than the $4.6 million the group spent the previous quarter but more than the $3.9 million in the second quarter of 2010.
The organization said in forms filed in July that it lobbied Congress and various government agencies, including the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Homeland Security, on a myriad of legislation that affects cable operators, from data collection and government surveillance issues to computer security and tax topics.
The group said the cable operators it represents serve more than 90 percent of the nation's households that have cable. It also represents equipment suppliers that sell to cable operators.
