President-elect Joe Biden celebrated his 279 Electoral College votes with his family on Saturday. In fact, it was his grandchildren who informed him that he'd won the election.

Shortly after breaking the news, several of Biden's grandkids shared an embrace with their grandfather, 77, and an observer snapped a picture of the moment. Granddaughter Naomi Biden, a Columbia University Law School graduate, shared the photo on Twitter, captioning it simply, "11.07.20."

The photo was taken after the former vice president and his wife, Jill Biden, stepped away from the TV briefly, when his grandchildren alerted him to the news, according NBC's Mike Memoli.

They were “enjoying the warm fall weather on their backyard patio Saturday morning when from inside their home, a chorus of applause erupted," Memoli reported.

“‘Pop, Pop! We won,’” his grandchildren said, a source shared with NBC News.

Biden's grandkids, along with other members of his family, joined him on stage after he delivered his acceptance speech on Saturday night in Wilmington, Delaware. The vice president-elect's family, including her husband, Doug Emhoff, also made an appearance at the end of the night.

Biden has six grandchildren. His son Hunter, 50, has four children: Naomi, Finnegan, Maisy and a son born in March. The late Beau Biden, who died of brain cancer in 2015, had two children, Natalie and Robert, who goes by Hunter.

Memoli went on to share a poignant quote from president-elect's sister, Valerie Biden, about her brother’s victory: “His sister, Valerie, told me that ‘Beau's hands (are) on his dad's shoulders today.’”

Biden officially became the president-elect on Saturday. NBC News projected that he'd won the state of Pennsylvania at 11:24 a.m. Eastern time. In addition to being projected to win the Electoral College, he won the popular vote and set a record for most votes for any presidential candidate in the country’s history.

"I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect Harris," Biden said in a statement to NBC News as the race was called. “With the campaign over, it's time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It's time for America to unite. And to heal. We are the United States of America. And there's nothing we can't do, if we do it together."
