Be the belle of the ball in these party fashions

Attending your holiday office party tonight? “Today” style editor Judy Gordon highlights the season's going-out attire and accessories.

It's your time to shine ... it's party time! We'll show you how to look divine quickly — whether you're celebrating the holidays with friends or making a star appearance at your office. It's all right here in this week's edition of The Trend Report.

Trend tip: Stash a few pretty tops and camisoles in your office this month ... you'll never have to turn down a last-minute invitation!

Trend tip: Don't fade into the crowd in basic black — opt for a stand-out color and you'll be memorable (plus easy to find) all evening.

Friends and familyGetting together with the gang? Whether you're off caroling, sharing a dinner or just hanging out, every holiday occasion deserves a special look. We love the ease of an embellished sweater in a feminine, complexion-brightening color or a sassy jewel-toned bright (Talbots, $98). Add the fun of fancy embellishments — such as oversized paillettes — to glimmer and shine, and we say “let's party”!

Trend tip: Steer clear of overtly “holiday”-themed sweaters that you can only wear for three weeks out of the year. A versatile sweater like this one can be worn all year long!

Trend tip: If you want your LBD to last for years to come, your best bet is to stick to a classic silhouette and let the details make the difference.

Private party
This season, be sure to schedule in a little private time to kick back, unwind and enjoy the season! Pour yourself a glass of wine, hook up your favorite tunes and leave the world behind (preferably in a luxurious bubble bath!). There's a lot to be said for taking time for yourself to reflect on all you have to be thankful for — and the best way to escape is with the sound of music. Don't have an iPod yet? Tell Santa ... maybe he'll leave one under the tree!

Trend tip: Dress up your iPod for the holidays in metallic leather, beads or rhinestones (Prada, $230) — it's a major trend!
