LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The high-profile cast of "Rock of Ages" is down one star. Alec Baldwin has fallen out of the adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, sources said.

Baldwin was to have played Dennis Dupree, the owner of the Bourbon Room, the Sunset Boulevard nightclub at the center of the movie. He told New York magazine in March that he was taking singing lessons for the role. "You have to," he said. "You have to take it seriously."

It was not clear why the actor decided to exit. "Ages" still boasts a strong all-star cast, including Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Mary J. Blige and Julianne Hough.

Adam Shankman is directing the New Line project.
