Wilford Brimley lists ranch, eating oatmeal in town now

Much has been written about the low-key nature of Wilford Brimley, the mustachioed movie star who has built a franchise around playing a grouchy old guy on the big screen. In a typical self-assessment in the Powell (Wyoming) Tribune this spring, Brimley described himself: “Just a guy. Just a feller.”

Wilford Brimley's 276-acre Wyoming ranch is for sale.

You might recognize him for his infomercials about diabetes or his ads for Quaker Oatmeal.

The actor and musician prefers starlight to spotlights and has lived for years out of the way, on a 276-acre ranch outside Greybull, Wyoming. Now Brimley, who turns 80 in September, has moved to a house in town and is selling his ranch for $1.25 million.

The property includes a blacksmith's cabin and two homes.

Other Hollywood stars clear out of their properties and have them staged. Brimley appears in his own listing photos, blacksmithing in an apron.

The working ranch sits at the foot of the Bighorn Mountains 10 minutes from Greybull. It includes 160 acres of irrigated land, grazing property for cattle, water rights and a long stretch of trout-fishing stream.

This Wyoming property includes two homes and is listed for $1.25 million.

Two homes on the property are vacant: a 1950 three-bedroom home with 1,386 square feet, and a 1945 log guest house with two bathrooms. There’s also a 3,600-square-foot shop and facilities for horses and rodeos.

The listing is held by Randy Shelton of Hall and Hall.
