Mother nature appears to be in a whimsical mood of late. Last week, we got a fluffy Winnie-the-Pooh cloud and now volcano lava is ... smiling at us?

In pictures emerging from the bubbling hot center of the Kilauea crater in Hawaii, thin cuts in the crusty lava have revealed a smiley face!

Photos and videos have been snapped by passing tourists, who probably smiled right back at this funny little discovery.

Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and has been erupting constantly since 1983. It recently reached the ocean for the first time since 2013, according to the BBC.
