If you’re looking for a job, you could do worse than consider a career as an airline pilot.

The overall U.S. economy may not be able to generate any job growth, but CNBC’s Phil LeBeau reports Friday that Boeing predicts the airline industry will hire 466,650 new pilots by 2029, with 186,000 needed in Asia and 97,000 hired in North America.

The global airline industry downsized after Sept. 11, 2001, but ten years on it’s on an upswing and ramping up hiring. Some airlines are even setting up job fairs in the United States and re-opening recruitment offices, LeBeau reports. A starting salary for a pilot is in the mid-$40,000 range.
