TLC is preparing to release a new album. Despite the fact that you're wearing parachute pants, no, you have not time-traveled to 1992. The R&B group is back and they are raising money on Kickstarter.
"While major labels offer artists multimillion-dollar recording and marketing budgets, they don't often give artists complete control of their own music," the group wrote on its Kickstarter page. "It is ESSENTIAL that we create our final album completely on our own terms, without any restrictions, with YOU. Plus, we are still singing. It’s what we love to do, so WHY NOT?!"
Apparently, TLC fans are no scrubs. They have already pledged more than $175,000, beating the set goal of $150,000 with 27 days left in the campaign.
So, what do you get for donating? A pledge of $15 is good for one digital album. For $250, TLC will record your outgoing voicemail, which would ideally start with, "Hi, I'm out chasing waterfalls ..." or "Don't creep, leave a message."
If you have $5,000 to spare, you get a slumber party with Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins. It's the scenario you dreamed of when you were 12 years old, except much, much more awkward.
Sadly, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes isn't around to feel the fan love. But T-Boz and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas have not forgotten about their third member, who passed away in 2002.
"This final album will be the first studio album by the two of us," they wrote. "Of course, Lisa's spirit will always be present in our music. That will never change."
