Does anything merit more than 1 million comments on Facebook? Perhaps the presidential race? Beyonce and Jay Z's baby? Photos of meerkats and other cute animals? How about Pioneer Trail (formerly known as FrontierVille)?
A fan group of the Facebook game set a new record Jan. 31 for having the most comments on a single post: 1,001,552.
The number is almost double last year's record, held by Roberto Esposito of Italy, says the Guinness World Records record-keeping site.
Winning the title wasn't based on a Pioneer Trail-related issue, but rather on the sheer volume and drive to be No. 1 when it came to comments posted.
Members of the Facebook group, Ffgpioneers, started their quest at the end of last October. "My friend Nattie Murphy saw the previous record and suggested I try to break it — it sounded like a great idea for our group to show what we are capable of when we work together," Tracey Hodgson of the United Kingdom told Guinness World Records.
(As administrator of the fan page, she notes that "while I don't actually play FrontierVille anymore, I've met some great people through playing it and love to be able to help them enjoy the game still.")
The post itself, from Hodgson, that got the comments:
hi all!!!, hope everyone is ok today , this is "the one", please talk about anything you like here, whatever you want to talk about, change topic whenever you like also, just have fun, . so how are you all today?( please someone speak quick or i'll have no nails left!!!) :-) xxx
Another team member, Cathy Matthews, who helped set the record, told Sacramento's FOX 40 TV station that she contributed by typing two-letter words over and over and over to count as posts (including the word "go").
While the title doesn't come with any money, it comes with a spot of fame.
Matthew said she thinks of it as "leaving my mark on the world .... because I'm really not a spring chicken anymore and I really haven't done anything phenomenal."
