Bobbie's Buzz: Beauty products from the '60s that are still buzzworthy today

In honor of our own Hoda Kotb's 50th Birthday, TODAY style editor and's Bobbie Thomas steps back in time to highlight what is still buzzworthy from the sixties.

Flashback fashion

Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot are just a few of the decade's style icons we're still enamored with today. From prim and proper pillbox hats and gloves to miniskirts and gogo boots, the '60s kicked off an era of individual expression that has provided inspiration for designers ever since (think color blocking, geometric prints, shift dresses and more). For those interested in scooping up retro styles, check out Lisa Perry's frocks ($75 & up,, and Samuel's Hats ($41 & up,, both of which have a cult following amongst both the historical and style savvy.

Haute hair

From bobs to bouffants, the 1960s saw the height of women's hair styling — literally! While hairspray made its debut early in the '60s, it reached its peek mid-decade, even outselling lipstick, an impressive milestone for the usually lip-centric U.S. beauty market.

The sixties also saw the breakout of brands like Dippity Do (gel for men), Alberto VO5 (hot oil treatments) and Vidal Sassoon, which remains in salons even today.

Mod makeup

The sixties were all about eyes and eyelashes. Cosmetic leaders like Maybelline boasted bold, thick eyeliner looks topped off with a dramatic dose of black mascara a la supermodel Twiggy. For skin, Max Factor's Pan Stik foundation reigned supreme. Its gel-like formula has withstood the test of tim as it can still be purchased on Amazon, while Maybelline's similar Fit Me gel foundation stick can be scooped up online or in drugstores.

And to remove all that makeup? Pond's Cold Cream was the cleanser of choice for countless women. The brand has been a staple in beauty cabinets since 1846 (yes, 1846!), so needless to say many of us have memories of our moms and grandmothers slathering it on before bed ($6.99,
