Sylvia Acevedo credits the encouragement she received in her girlhood Brownie troop with inspiring her to become a prominent rocket scientist. Now, as CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA, she is encouraging a new generation of girls to reach for the stars.

A large part of that effort is the G.I.R.L Agenda, which the organization describes as "a nonpartisan initiative to inspire, prepare and mobilize girls and those who care about them to lead positive change through civic action."
