Earlier this week, Hilton Worldwide Holdings announced its sale of the legendary Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York for $1.95 billion to China-based buyer Anbang Insurance Group.

The Waldorf has a storied history — temporary home to presidents, royalty and celebrities, the setting of movies like "Scent of a Woman" and the birthplace of the eponymous Waldorf salad.

But did you know about the secret tunnel underneath the famed hotel? Matt Lauer revealed Track 61 to TODAY viewers in 2008. 

Who was it built for and who used it? Lauer reports it was a special VIP entrance into the hotel for wealthy patrons — even President Franklin D. Roosevelt!
