When it comes to a small laundry room, its vital to make the best use of the space. The Property Brothers stopped by studio 1A to offer their tips on doing just that.

Laundry rooms are often the forgotten space in a home, and that can lead to the room becoming a cluttered mess. Drew and Jonathon Scott shared their tips on how you can give your laundry room a new look, as well as better function, with a few small tweaks.

1. Turn an armoire or entertainment center into a laundry station.

Rather than tossing your larger furniture, the Scotts recommend reusing an armoire or entertainment center as a place to store your laundry supplies and to help keep things organized.

"Where you would put your TV on this armoire would actually be a perfect folding station," Jonathon Scott explained. Use the furniture's shelves to store laundry supplies, towels and other miscellaneous laundry items.

2. Build a work station over appliances to maximize space.

Placing something as simple as reclaimed lumber over the top of your washer and dryer instantly creates a usable work space in your laundry room.

3. Hang curtains to create a distinct space.

If your washer and dryer isn't in its own room, you can put up a pipe along the wall and use curtains to separate your laundry room from your living space. It's easy and less expensive than building a wall.

4. Make your own drying space with a re-purposed ladder.

One nifty way to add more function is to hang a decorative ladder on the laundry room wall. The ladder can be used as a multilevel drying rack without tacking up any floor space.
