Could eliminating certain foods from your diet prevent allergies, fatigue, or headaches? Some people think so. 

A recent trend spotlighted this week by the Wall Street Journal involves people intentionally leaving out food groups from their daily diets in an effort to discover and potentially alleviate personal food sensitivities. 

For several weeks at a time, those trying a so-called "elimination diet" experiment by avoiding common food groups — dairy, sugar and gluten, for example — and eventually introducing each one back into their system individually, to determine how different items affect their bodies. Though it has been beneficial for some to follow the dieting strategy, the approach still lacks major scientific research.
