Don't let winter throw off your workouts! 3 motivational tricks

There are endless excuses that can keep you from your workout if you let them, especially in the winter. Cold temperatures, lack of sun, fatigue, stress from the holidays, bad moods, a tough day at work—the list can go on and on. But believe it or not, besides overtraining (working out too many days in a row) or an injury, the reasons you're not hitting your workouts are mostly in your head.Try

There are endless excuses that can keep you from your workout if you let them, especially in the winter. Cold temperatures, lack of sun, fatigue, stress from the holidays, bad moods, a tough day at work—the list can go on and on. But believe it or not, besides overtraining (working out too many days in a row) or an injury, the reasons you're not hitting your workouts are mostly in your head.

Try these easy tricks to stay on your fitness track this winter, the next time you’re tempted to bail.

Work out for 10 minutes

Granted, you can actually get a great workout in only 10 minutes, but even if you planned a longer workout, tell yourself you can quit after 10 minutes. You can do anything for 10 minutes! And after your 10 minutes are up, if you're really still not motivated, you can stop.

However, chances are once you're moving around for 10 minutes, those endorphins will be pumping and you won’t want to stop!

Listen to your workout playlist

While you're sitting at home debating whether or not to head to the gym, put on your workout playlist! If you listen to the songs you normally hear only when you’re working out, you’ll start feeling pumped just listening to those tunes. So pop on a headset and start gathering your workout gear!

Make fun plans for afterward

If you’re not looking forward to your workout itself, plan something afterward you’ll enjoy, such as meeting up with friends, going out to dinner, etc. Just make sure to give yourself enough time to shower and change.
