TODAY anchors share their favorite burger combinations

There's queso and guac galore!

When it comes to burgers, there's plenty to debate: ketchup or mustard? Medium or medium rare? In-N-Out or Shake Shack? Is a veggie burger actually a "burger"? When making a cheeseburger, should cheese be added while the patty is on the grill or after grilling?

There is, of course, no such thing as The Perfect Burger — but the TODAY anchors all have very strong opinions on how this cookout staple should be made, regardless.

Jenna Bush Hager pours her famous queso over her creation, which she calls the "Texas Forever Burger." She also tops it with jalapeños to heat things up and a dollop of guacamole to cool it down. On the side, she likes to have tortilla chips with — you guessed it! — even more guac.

Savannah Guthrie takes a less spicy approach, topping her "Guthrie Grande Burger" with bacon, American cheese, avocado (which she salts) and — wait for it — Doritos. She serves it with a side of french fries.

Carson Daly does something pretty similar with American cheese and avocado on his "Hold My Beer Burger," but adds lettuce and tomato (we love a BLT-style anything!). He also prefers a side of pickles and a cold beer.

Craig Melvin also opts for bacon, lettuce and tomato, but always chooses pepper jack cheese on his "Cackalacky Burger." Craig enjoys his burger with a side of hand-cut fries spiced up with a little Cajun seasoning, Bojangles-style.

Our esteemed judges, Pig Beach's Matt Abdoo and TODAY Tastemaker Alejandra Ramos, had a clear winner — Jenna's Texas-style burger! And after TODAY Food opened up the poll to fans, the winner was solidified as viewers and readers chose Jenna's spicy and cheesy creation above all the other anchors' burger concoctions.

Whip up a batch of Jenna's famous queso and try it out this week!

Back in April, the co-hosts of the 3rd Hour of TODAY also shared their preferred patty preparations, and Craig said he likes to put spicy mustard on the top bun (preferably brioche) and ketchup on the bottom.

Dylan Dreyer's dad taught her to infuse as much flavor as possible into the patty by adding garlic powder, pepper and soy sauce (!) to the ground beef. Aside from the seasoning, Dylan keeps it pretty classic when it comes to toppings, using American cheese, lettuce, tomato and ketchup on a toasted potato bun.

Sheinelle Jones, on the other hand, having enjoyed her 28-day, plant-based food plan, likes ditching the meat altogether with a vegan veggie patty, organic mixed greens, red onions, roasted red peppers, alfalfa sprouts and a Dijon-balsamic dressing on a multigrain bun.

In his typical gourmet fashion, Al Roker prefers a lamb burger slathered with his very own "special sauce" — a savory and spicy concoction consisting of 2 cups of mayonnaise, 1/2 cup of Sriracha, 2 tablespoons of condensed milk and 1 tablespoon of sea salt. And since he's still on the keto diet, he puts the lamb patty between two slices of his favorite keto-friendly bread.

As evidenced by this highly scientific study (consisting of four anchors with wildly different tastes), burgers are like snowflakes: No two are alike but they're all special.
