Dunkin’ Donuts' new doughnut breakfast sandwich won't be on their menu until later this week, but on Tuesday, the TODAY anchors got an early opportunity to sample the indulgence.
The sandwich includes a fried egg and smoked bacon inside a split glazed doughnut.
“Sweet and savory,” Natalie Morales declared (without offering a verdict of thumbs up or down).
“I think it’s got potential,” Al Roker said after taking a bite, although he added he would like to have tried it warmed up.
The “Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich," which will be available June 7, is comparable to other breakfast sandwiches on the market, both in price and caloric intake. The Dunkin’ Donuts sandwich is 360 calories and sells for $2.99. The McDonald’s Egg McMuffin costs $2.49 and packs 300 calories, while Starbucks offers a 350-calorie bacon and gouda breakfast sandwich for $3.76.
Once you veer from healthier alternatives, you shouldn't stop halfway, Willie Geist opined.
“If you’re going to do it, go all in,” he said.
