As HuffPo reported, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the average price of bacon rose to an all-time high of $6.11 per pound in June – double the cost just 10 years ago.

“For what you'd spend for a pound of bacon today, you could buy a whole four-pound chicken, a six-pack of PBR, 10 pounds of bananas, 36 eggs…” HuffPo’s Joe Satran wrote.

The pig virus is not harmful to humans but has killed about 7 million piglets over the past year. That combined with the drought-related rise in feed prices has made it a lot more work for the average American to bring home the bacon.
