Certain batches of Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s frozen meals are being voluntarily recalled due to the potential presence of “wood-like material.”

Four products produced between August 2024 and March 2025, and were distributed at major retailers across the country between September 2024 and March 2025, are affected by the recall, according to a release from Nestlé USA.

The recall affects certain batches of Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash Ravioli, Lean Cuisine Spinach Artichoke Ravioli, Lean Cuisine Lemon Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry and Stouffer's Party Size Chicken Lasagna, the company said.

Nestlé USA said it issued the voluntary recall this week after consumers reached out about the issue, and noted there had been “one potential choking incident to date.”

The company said it is “actively investigating the source of the wood-like material,” and said it is “confident that this is an isolated issue.”

Shoppers who purchased these products are advised not to consume them and should return them to the store where they were purchased for a replacement or full refund, Nestlé USA said.

The company added it is working with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture on the recall.

The recall only affects products with certain batch numbers and expiration dates, and does not involve any other Lean Cuisine or Stouffer’s products. The full list of affected products, with relevant batch codes, is available on the FDA's website.

Food recalls due to the presence of foreign material are relatively rare. Of all the food recalls issued by the FDA and USDA last year, 4.1% of foods were recalled due to foreign material, according to PIRG, a consumer advocacy group.

By comparison, 22% of food recalls last year were due to listeria, about 14% were due to salmonella, and about 34% were due to undeclared allergens.

There were 296 food recall announcements in the U.S. in 2024, according to PIRG.
