Could you eat this 7-pound, $75 burger in an hour? There's a prize at stake

There's a lot that goes into this burger.

Burgers, brats, hot dogs and fries are classic foods that are beloved at stadiums across the country, but now there's a new burger that's combining them all into one 7-pound sandwich — and it's absolutely insane.

What's even crazier is that the NFL's Arizona Cardinals are challenging its fans to eat this monster of a burger that even an offensive lineman would have a hard time tackling.

The burger, which is called The Gridiron Challenge Burger and will cost $75, will make its debut during the team's preseason game on Saturday at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

"The challenge is to simply finish the burger in a hour or less in order to win a Cardinals jersey and a picture on the videoboard," Doreen Dower, general manager of Craft Culinary Concepts, told TODAY Food.

That's easier said than done!

Here's the breakdown of the 11 ingredients that make up this behemoth that's served on a 10-inch hamburger bun:

It has five burger patties that weigh 1/3 of a pound each, five all-beef hot dogs and five bratwursts. It's topped with 20 slices of American cheese and eight slices of bacon.

As if that wasn't enough, it's also piled high with eight chicken tenders and 12 ounces of french fries — because why not just throw in some more classic stadium food at this point?

There are some veggies on the burger too: lettuce, tomatoes and pickles.

The finishing touch is something called "tanker" sauce that's a mixture of homemade barbecue sauce and mayonnaise.

Holy hamburger! A Cardinals jersey and a photo on the videoboard somehow doesn't seem like enough of a reward.

Though the burger won't be available until Saturday, three members of the stadium's culinary team attempted to complete the challenge on Monday. They all failed, unsurprisingly.

"One of them ... actually called in sick today," executive chef Sean Kavanaugh told Arizona Central on Tuesday. "So we're hoping he heals okay."

Kavanaugh didn't know the calorie count of the burger ("Still counting, but got a lot of zeroes after it," he said), but one person on Reddit calculated that it likely had about 8,300 calories!

The stadium will also offer another over-the-top burger called the Gridzilla Burger, which is small only when compared to the Gridiron Challenge Burger. The $22 Gridzilla is loaded with one 1/3-pound burger, one hot dog, one brat, American cheese, two chicken tenders, fries, lettuce, bacon, tomatoes, pickles and "tanker" sauce. It's served on a sesame seed bun.

That sounds slightly more reasonable, but still pretty crazy.

"Only six people will be able to take the challenge at each game," Dower told TODAY Food. "Fans will have to arrive when the gates open to sign up at section 102 and the challenge begins roughly one hour before kickoff."

Time will tell if anyone is able to polish off the monster burger. If not, perhaps it should be renamed the Impossible Burger.
