McDonald's is testing a vegan burger, but there's a catch

McDonald's has just announced a new addition to its burger lineup: The McVegan. But there's just one teensy-tiny issue.

McDonald's has just announced a new addition to its burger lineup: The McVegan. But before vegans in the United States get too excited, they should know that they'll have to fly overseas to give it a taste.

This is just a test release and the McVegan will be pretty hard to come by it: The burger, a soy-based patty with all the (vegan) fixings, is only available at one location — a McDonald's in Tampere, Finland, from October 4 through November 21.

While you might not be able to try the burger yet, you can see what it looks like: There's a photo of the McVegan on the McDonald’s Finland website.

If consumer interest comes into play when deciding to roll out this release to the U.S., Twitter seems very ready to give the McVegan a try.

A representative for McDonald's did confirm to TODAY over email that the McVegan is limited to McDonald's Finland and there are no current plans for that to change. But given the growing popularity of vegan burgers like the Impossible Burger and the Beyond Burger, we wouldn't be surprised to see McDonald's try the McVegan out in the U.S. In the meantime, you'll just have to make your own vegan comfort food.
