Put down the green beer.
Making corned beef and soda bread may be the most classic ways to celebrate St. Patrick's Day at home. But if you really want to see more green, plenty of places are offering limited-edition treats that are anything but traditional — well, except for the iconic Shamrock Shake.
Krispy Kreme is bringing back its signature St. Patty's Day dessert: the O'riginal Glazed Doughnut, which was available last year only on March 17. This year, the classic glazed treat (dyed bright green, of course) will be available at participating Krispy Kreme shops throughout the U.S. and Canada on March 16 and 17.
More minty-green odes to Ireland include Arby's mint chocolate milkshake — an icy swirl of chocolate and mint, topped with more chocolatey-mint Andes candy pieces a little chocolate syrup.
Dunkin' Donuts also dropped a new mint brownie doughnut. It's filled with mint brownie batter-flavored buttercream, smothered in a light green icing and topped with brownie crumbles.
And, of course, McDonald’s already brought back its Shamrock Shake in February for all those eager leprechauns with a sweet tooth. The shake, which was originally introduced in 1970, is made with vanilla soft serve ice cream, green “shamrock” syrup (that has a very light hint of mint), and whipped cream. To track it down, just journey to the end of the rainbow … or use the Shamrock Shake finder app to find the closest location that's serving it.
If you want a little sour to go with your sweet, Chili’s launched a $5 cocktail called the Lucky Jameson and it's available throughout the entire month. The drink is similar to a margarita but uses the Irish whiskey instead of tequila.
So far, it's getting some rave reviews. One taster posted to Facebook:
“Just had this at my local chilis in Oklahoma city and this is amazing!! I had 2 of them. Who would have ever thought to make a margarita with whiskey! Delicious!!"
