Fried eggs are one of the most versatile foods, as they easily transition from starring in a breakfast sandwich to stealing the salad topping spotlight. But a few simple tips on technique can mean the difference between fried egg success (hello, runny yolk!) and fried egg failure.
Add a pat of butter to a saucepan set over medium low heat. Swirl the butter around so it evenly coats the pan.
Crack the egg into a small bowl then pour the egg into the saucepan.
Cook the egg for 1 to 2 minutes until the whites begin to firm up. Cover the pan with a lid and cook the egg an additional 1 to 2 minutes until the yolk reaches your desired doneness for the perfect sunny side up egg. Alternately, flip the egg once and cook it an additional 1 to 2 minutes if you prefer your eggs "over easy."
Use an offset spatula to transfer the egg from the pan to your serving plate. Success!
